Have you ever found yourself lost in the untamed wilderness, where the serene and calm nature can swiftly ignite a chilling fear deep within you.So here I am penning one.
This is a real incident mixed with a bit of fantacy.
On a delightful sunlit day, my dear friend, her longtime partner, and I myself planned a visit to a place called "Boothathan Kett" in India.
The name, "Boothathan Kett," derived from an old legend, is about mischievous demons or boothas who had nefarious plans to destroy the village at night by flooding the Periyar River (aka Periyaar, the mighty river). However, they were thwarted by the Lord, who sent a rooster as a sign.
In 'Hinduism' Boothas are closely associated with Lord Shiva.
It is believed that 'Daksha' who was father in law of Lord Shiva, was beheaded by Boothas.Shiva's wife 'Sathi' took her life when Daksha tried to defy Lord Shiva. So as a revenge Shiva sent Boothas to behead Daksha.Later on Lord Shiva married Devi Parvathi who is believed as rebirth of Sathi Devi. Visiting a place filled with beliefs added fuel to our exitment.
As the sun began to wane, we reached the newly
constructed dam. It looked stunning with the beautiful river and the mountains that crowned its surroundings. We spent a refreshing time in the park's garden and relished ourselves in the waters in canoes.
Since there was time we decided to move through the wild to visit the bhootha's old unfinished dam.
The calmness of the forest's verdant canopy and watchful sentinel rocks immediately instilled quietness in us.
And then an unpleasant, uninvited guest, yet the true owner of the wild, paid us a visit. It took us a minute to realize that the big ebony rock in front of us had two big ivory tusks.
Panic is an indescribable emotion, tough to pen down. It seizes not only one's sight but also shuts down every other self-defining sense.A surge of adrenaline made us find escape routes in every unknown direction.
And in the midst of gasping for breath, I found myself alone, totally separated from my friends. was just me surrounded by the untamed wilderness. The tusker was not alone who posed a threat,it seemed as if everything that moved inside the forest came alive and looked straight into my eyes.
Then, at the same moment, the heavens opened its doors and unleashed its fury. The rain made me completely soaked in it. And left me in total darkness, my new soul mate.A human becomes a true believer at times of immense fear, the unwavering companion.
Makes you believe in everything that gives you a glimmer of hope.
With the deafening sounds of crickets all over the place, I searched for a sign of the Lord's rooster to illuminate my path but in vain.
Slippery mud under my aching feet made walking through wild a tough task.
Then the benevolent bhoothas who sat atop the trees lighted my path, with fireflies, and guided me to cross the treacherous terrain.
Eventually, they led me to the other side of the forest, where I met my friends who had already overcome their own troubles.
Together, we sat in the riverbed, sought refuge beneath the rain-soaked sky, drenched yet emboldened, witnessing the river’s relentless flow through the demons' unfinished work—a testament to nature’s impeccable craftsmanship.
