Depression is a state of mind where you feel trapped and wont find joy in
anything. You feel reluctant to leave your bed. Interests that once sparked
your passion now leave you feeling empty and worthless. At some point, you may
even contemplate suicide. How do you escape this hell hole ? Here are some
steps that can genuinely help:
Depression does not differentiate rich or poor, nor colour of skin or age
matters. It may attack you at some stage of life.So be prepared and be ready to
fight back.
- Exercise - Begin with simple tasks like cleaning your room or bathroom. Do a few dishes, take a walk, and eventually work up a sweat. You'll find that food tastes better when you're physically active.
- Live in present - Recognize that many of us dwell in our minds, either brooding over the past or fretting about the future. Try meditation techniques like Vipassana to appreciate the present moment. Listening to others can also help quiet a worried mind.
- Leave a Toxic Job - If your job is a major source of your depression, consider leaving it. While this may not be easy due to financial responsibilities, remember that you can't paint a picture without a canvas. Seek work that provides for you and your family's needs. Explore minimalistic living and avoid trying to emulate others, as excessive attachment often leads to suffering.
- Find Happiness in Small Things - Start by accomplishing small tasks, like making your bed or taking a bath. Spend time in nature, walk barefoot, and connect with the Earth. Consider planting a tree or feeding an animal. Reflect on your actions and ensure they contribute positively to others and the world. Real happiness comes from giving and showing gratitude. Each day, practice forgiveness for yourself and others.
- Overcome Shame - Recognize that shame is subjective and can dissipate with time. Avoid developing harmful habits, as they can lead to further pain in life. Analyze your thoughts and replace negatives with positives.
- Learn Something New - Pick up a musical instrument or a new language. Read a few pages from a good book, listen to music, and use social media primarily for learning. Avoid blaming others or your parents; everyone's life experiences are unique. Use your time wisely, incorporate positive habits, and stick to them daily.
- Pray Every Day - Spend time gazing at the night sky, marveling at the vastness of the universe, and expressing gratitude for the gift of life. Understand that many people have passed away today through no fault of their own, yet you're still here. Look at the life of people less privileged than that of yours.Never give up!.Never give up!
- Consult a Psychologist - This is crucial. Many wonder why they should seek help from a mental health professional. Just as you consult a physician for a serious fever, your mind also requires assistance. When you're feeling completely overwhelmed, always consider visiting a mental health professional.
